The Return of the Prodigal Son...
20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’22 “But the father said to his servants, [f]‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.
Prodigal.... Wasteful... Careless and unwise
Text in the NLT as read by Dr. Whitehead
20 “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.[b]’22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Dr. Robert Whitehead a short meditation on forgiveness...
Forgiveness means1. Relationships can be mended (repaired)Sewn, stitched or patched2. We release something… go out, freed, emancipated, let loose…Unless you let go… forgive, forgive yourself. Father released love and compassion towards his son.3. Reconciliation is possible… going beyond mending. Resolution. Forgiveness changes everything. Lost… now found! Dead now alive!Forgiveness… Doesn’t mean forgetting… you just let go. Easier said than done.
Thank you Dr. Whitehead!
One of my favorite quotes from Stephen Covey, author of & Habits of Highly Effective People, "Unforgiveness is the poison we drink thinking it will kill the other person." Thank you Pastor Whitehead. for reminding us of the Lord's great forgiveness!
Wow-thT IS A POWERFUL THOUGHT eRIC! lET GO!

More notes from Dr. Scalise's Talk today...
Has God been asleep on the job?Self forgiveness… No matter where you go… you’re always there. You cannot give away something we’ve never received.I need to understand what I’ve been forgiven for…Excruciating… 2 Latin Words… Off the CrossForgiveness is not natural… it’s supernatural. Never need to teach on “How to give vengeance” That’s natural.Matthew 18… how many times to I need to forgive?Your house is worth $160,000,000 but you earned $50 / day. Pay it off by Monday or all your family goes into jail. Macro-themaio forgiveness.. have patience with me.First servant did not grasp what he had been given.Forgiveness is not…Forgetting. It’s a choice to let go in spite of what happened.Excusing. Don’t minimize what happened.A feeling. Noun or Verb? Both… love is a verb first then a feeling. Forgiveness an act of will firstNot a 1 Time Act… it’s a process. Burn Victims… process of reconstructive surgery. All in process.Doesn’t mean reconciliation… can lead to it. We can choos
choose to forgive regardless of their response.Forgiveness is a Solo Flight to freedom.
4 Step process1. Hurt. Embrace the pain and be honest about it. Real pain.2. Hate. Permission to hate what was done, said. NOT people. What happened/how it happened can be hated. Jesus in the Temple hated the action of the money changers… not the money changers.3. Hook. Let someone OFF your hook. They may still be on God’s hook. God is a just judge. And HE has all the information. Giving up control. Freedom comes in giving control back to God.4. Heal. Electrical current example. Stronger the event or pain the more we tighten down. We have to forgive… cut the current first. Let to first.
Unforgiveness is hidden anger." It is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel which is stored than to anything on which it is poured"= Mark Twain
IF you'd rather ask a question here... that works as well.
Great words…..Thank you all
